Welcome to "Roll-A-Ball!", a 3D platformer game driven by one crucial gameplay rule : you control a ball with your mouse. The faster you move, the harder the acceleration will be.
The game's concept dates back to highschool times, and overall remained the same since. The player moved a ball exclusively with the mouse, moving it to accelerate or brake.
The ball was like a drunk mouse cursor navigating from platform to platform, the jumps getting harder and the paths narrowing as the player progressed. If you fall into the void,
you simply respawn at the beginning. This was basically it.
This game was developed alongside Ultra's homemade engine UGE (Ultra Game Engine) in C++, primarily written by David Kroft.
The new updates on the engine enabled easier adding and experimenting on new features, and those features enabled extending the existing functionality of the engine.
The alpha version was developped during highschool. This version was very simple : the camera couldn't rotate, the levels were made exclusively out of boxes, etc...
Then, a short time after, development of the Beta version began, featuring richer levels, more control for the player, and minimal multiplayer support. Unfortunately multiplayer was a bit unstable, and has been discontinued.
The last beta version was scheduled for July 2020, but it has been canceled.
Currently, the source code is still kept safe, for an eventual rework of the project under the upcoming UGE 2.0.
